president obama says he supports an internet sales tax. scott mcgrew joins us now. a lot of people are really confused about what this means for them. many californians, they pay sales tax when they buy online. first things first. you are always supposed to pay sales tax no matter what. you are just supposed to self-report and few people do that. you are absolutely correct. when californians buy something on amazon or best buy, those companies already include sales tax. so the senate bill would empower states to collect sales tax from any online purpose. ebay is one of the few companies against it saying it hurts small business. the law as written would exempt companies to do less than $1 million in sales outside their home state state. small business seems a bit bigger than you might have expected. there are lots of reasons not to like taxes. bottom line, in many cases, you were already paying them. in every case, you were ez spoed to supposed to be paying them. states and cities could collect $22 billion in new tax. the big business storiry y is g to be apple. inv
